I’m excited to share some exciting news with you all: I’ve been chosen by the Azerbaijan National Commission for UNESCO to represent Malta as a visual artist at the forthcoming Youth Art Camp, Shusha 2022, this August. A huge thank you to the Maltese National Commission for UNESCO for nominating me for this incredible opportunity.
I’ll be spending 10 days in Azerbaijan, working alongside 19 other international artists from all over the world. Together, we’ll be creating art inspired by the stunning Azerbaijani landscape, with each of us producing three paintings during our time there. At the end of the project, our work will be exhibited in Baku.
What makes this experience even more meaningful is the location itself. Shusha has recently witnessed conflict with a neighbouring country, and we’ll be living and working there under the protection of the Azerbaijani army as the government works to restore this beautiful city and establish it as a hub for art and culture in the region. Being part of that story, using art to help bring life and creativity back to a place that has known such hardship, means a great deal to me.
