Listen: Stiefnu Interviewed on RTK

On the 5th of May 2009, I was invited by Manuel Cassar for an interview on one of RTK’s most prominent radio programmes, a platform dedicated to showcasing local artists and spotlighting Maltese cultural events and theatrical productions.

The conversation traced my journey through art, starting with my early works and unfolding into a wide-ranging discussion covering the cultural events and exhibitions shaping Malta’s art scene. I spoke at length about Earth Garden, and how it’s exciting to see more and more young people drawn to this green festival year after year. I explained how, over the past two editions, I’ve approached my work there with an eco-friendly mindset, using the festival itself as inspiration for the pieces I create.

I also looked back at my exhibitions abroad from my time in Sciacca, Italy, to my art tour across the United Kingdom, both of which opened up new dimensions in my practice and several promising paths I’m still exploring. I closed the interview with a message to young artists: seek out the great galleries and museums of Europe. There’s real value in standing in front of the works that shaped the artists who came before us, it’s often the best way to understand how their influence continues to shape art today.
